How to register as a producer and upload tunes to the site

thechronic
HOW TO GET ACCESS TO THE UPLOAD PAGE:

Step 1: Write 5 detailed reviews
To get producer rights, you are required to write at least 5 detailed reviews. 'Reviews' are comments that are given on the tracks that have been posted in the tunes forum. When you start writing reviews, make sure they are useful for the producer that made the track, so write something about the things you like and dislike about the track.
  • The reviews need to be at least 100 words.
  • Express your personal opinion in detail. Just saying you like a track does not count as a valid review.
  • You can write about all aspects of the production, like the structure, the sound of individual instruments, the mixing, the melodies etc.

Step 2: Apply for producer rights

After writing the reviews, go to the producers page, log in using the box in the top right and click on the 'apply for producer rights' link. Your reviews will be checked and if they qualify you will receive a PM confirming that you received your producer rights. Since this has to be done manually you will usually have to wait for a couple of days, please be patient!!
Make sure you have enabled either 'Can the Admins email you?' or 'Can members send you private messages?' in your profile.
This makes sure the admins can contact you to help you get your producer rights.

Step 3: Uploading your tracks
The rules:
  1. The track must be made by you. If you want to see a track by someone else in here, just ask them to register and upload it themselves.
  2. The music style must be drum-n-bass or a related style like hardstep, nu skool breakz etc. If you upload tracks that are in a different style I will delete them!
  3. The track may not contain copyrighted samples!!!! Don't take samples of other people's tracks, not even a short one!! Violating this could force me to close the site, so if I find out you are using copyrighted samples I will REMOVE ALL YOUR TRACKS AND BAN YOU FROM THE SITE!!
  4. The file may not be bigger than 16MB and must be in MP3 format. Feel free to upload high quality MP3's up to 320 kbps.

To upload a track, go to the producer section which is accessible from the main page. You can log in with your forum password there. You just have to fill in some things like the name of the track and then you can start the upload.

Feel free to post test versions, ideas etc.

NOTES:
  1. After you uploaded a file a thread is created in the Tunes forum announcing that the track has been uploaded. The 'comments' link points to this thread so people can write comments.
  2. Use the LAME encoder to get the best MP3 quality Big Grin If you want to use LAME it's best to get a front end for it such as RazorLame too to avoid having to type in things in a DOS window Big Grin

a lil something about the copyrighted samples

i don't think we're talking about drumsamples or vocal samples from movies and such, ...

i mean, what's a dnb track without a sampled drumloop (yeayea u can make em urself, but u get my point)
Surya
I think we all know what he means...
thechronic
I'm sorry but I can't allow that... people have been sued for big amounts of cash for sampling a single stupid note or drum hit from a record. I just can't take the risk because I'm responsible for the content on my site.

BTW there are a lot of sample CDs available with copyright free drum loops etc.
Surya
Indeed.

The new server has a max upload size set to only 2MB... I thought it was raised but it's actually lowered Frown

I've mailed the host about it, and I'm sure they'll fix it soon, since they're so nice guys and I'm a good costumer with all this extra bandwidth requirements etc Big Grin
Surya
2MB is ridiculus! We have no use for it that way, hope it gets fixed soon!
thechronic
Set to 7MB now Cool

hi y'all

on the listen page my beatbattle entry gives questionmarks on the bitrate and duration...

is this an error by me or the upload procedure or something?

not that it matters, as long as it is listenable...

PS noticed a lil' mixdown error, so i might have to reupload a remastered version...

how does one delete an online track?

For now just PM thechronic to do that, page is still in the works Frown
thechronic
I don't have time... don't even have time to update the comments fields in the listen page even though that's not much work Frown

Nowadays I'm lucky if I get 6 hours of sleep inbetween jobs (sometimes it's only 3 or 4 hours) and if I have a day off I sleep all day and then need to do all my housekeeping shit, wash my clothes and pay my bills etc...

Sorry folks... will have much more time after the summer!!!

I use a routine that tries to detect the bitrate and length but sometimes it can't detect it. The questionmarks are an improvement actually, it used to be just an empty field Big Grin In these cases I have to change it manually in the database. I'll update all errors and comment fields ASAP!!
