Drum sequencing in Cubase SX

-J-
Hi
about a week ago i gave myself the assignment: now you're going to clean up your computer, install cubase, and fucking figure out the whole thing with all the plugins and rewire channels etc etc.

now i did that, took 2 days straight and i'm getting kinda started with cubase, quite falling in love with the proggie (must say Big Grin )

the thing is, i'm used to creating my drumloops in the pattern sequencer of the Redrum machine (great drum sequencer, has lots of possibilities to expand sound etc.) but i can't figure out how i get the patterns from the redrum editor into the cubase sequencer (the assigned midi channel ...)

OR (maybe even more ergonomic)
a good substitute (a VSTi plugin ...) with wide possibilities in editing, stretching, etc etc
for drum programming in cubase ...

thx in advance
Surya
I just use Battery and a simple Midi track...

could be useful if u could post some links and names of good vst drum synths or samplers, or vst beat slicers (not entirely the same offcourse, but it's pretty useful for full breakz)
maybe Halion is a good solution, but then i have to find it (...Wink hint!)

or something else ...
gonna try lookin for that Battery thing
but i like working drums in pattern editors and then playin with them in the score editor instead of starting from scratch in the editor ...
Surya
Battery is from Native Instruments and is a sampler especially for drums, with some nice layering functions and such

Halion is nice too, but for drums I like using Battery, for the normal samples Halion.

Both are easy to find. Seek in your soul for places to look for them Wink

Seems like NI has a new tool especially for loops: Intakt... Haven't checked it out though...
-J-
Intakt is heavenly !
but once again expensive ...

and, the thing is, my soul is a hard place to look into these days because of macintosh computers and other mystique things Wink

maybe i can take a peak into yours Wink

imho drum sequencing in cubase really sux ass, and that's the reason why i look very much forward to cubase sx3 with new "pattern" feature.. i hope finally there will be something similar to redrum :-) .. but.. i think the best solution is rewire cubase and reason and just keep using redrum .. if you want to put vst plugins on reason machines you have to disconnect them from mix and connect it in the very first utility in reason.. if you know what i mean :-) then you just enable channel 3,4, etc.. in cubase and you can effect reason synths with vst
Surya
I don't like the pattern function in Redrum that much... I work faster when I just program the hits in the sequence editor...

Battery is ok, but i'd rather you Phatmatik Pro. It's much easier for break work, and as far as making things from one shots, you can load them in and just use it like battery in the editor anyways. So its kinda a multipurpose type thing.

But why don't you use the redrum together with Cubase? You can use ReWire to connect Reason and cubase together, then audio tracks from reason will appear in cubase mixer. Check Cubase pdf manual for details, it might need some manual reading to get it set up.

I've been searching something similar myself, with no luck. I ended up using one of these:

and bang my beats in live, you can allways drop the tempo slower and use quantize to fix errors I do. Those might not cost too much as second hand nowdays.

Hey can u send me a little more specific instructions on how to get my VST`s to work with Reason synths. I have tried using Cubase in rewire mode and can`t seem to get the quantizing like Reason does so I been stuck without making a beat for like a month. Pure torture. and I lowered my latency from 1024 to 512 and I get no sound when I do it. Can u help?

Thanks
