timestreching and vocals

are any of you guys melodyne users? i just got it and it seems very cool. i can see how it can be used to alter pitches of different parts of a vocal sample and how it can be used to change the bpm of a vocal up or down.

i use cubase and also have abelton (but dont really use)

i want to beable to take an accapella and be able to make it fit to 170 bpm without changing the pitch and make it fit to my kiks n snares rythym. cant figure this out so far.

i saw a demonstration of melodyne on youtube and the dude started with an accapella that was 120 bpm. he through some kiks in a 4 on the floor beat and it fit the vocal at 120bpm, he only used melodyne to beable to raise the bpm without destroying the pitch.

but this did not work for me when i tryed to do it with a jedi mind tricks acapella. i have know idea what the original bpm is on this acapella either.

does anyone know how this could be done, matching any acapella to any beat at any tempo?

I have cubase studio 5 and if I know the tempo all I have to do is select the stretch function in the media pool and it matches the tempo pretty well.

you mean, if you know the tempo of the acapella? or the tempo you want to work in on the track?

Of the accapella. it shows the tempo on the pool. If the file is long it will most likely show something like 120 bpm for the tempo. This is misleading. If you have Wavosuar (an audio editor) it has a function where you can select a complete loop of a file and find its tempo. After you know the tempo, load it into cubase then change the tempo of the file in the pool then click the stretch function.

ok so yeah, in the media pool it tells me that the tempo for this accapella is 120.19. and it is a full length accapella too. so i will check out that wavosuar.

so were do you click on the stretch function, all i can see is if you right click on the file in the media pool you can go to process>time stretch.

were is this stretch function?

If you are using version 4 or 5 there will be a little square where you can click on it and it will show an x.

I use acapellas all the time in my ragga jungle... i use fl for ragga jungle so i cant really help you too much with cubase. Another way of making the acapella fit if you cant get it bang on time is the change the bpm of the tune. Sometimes by changing it by 0.005 bpm can really make the difference . Another way is to cut a long acapella into smaller sections
