Isn't it time we had a competition?

So yeah, isn't time we had a competition of some sort? I remember last year we had the one hot minute competition (didn't compete in it tho, hadn't started producing then) which went down really well. Actually, it was one of the things that first got me into this website.

A new competition would drum-up (pun intended) some more outside interest in the website, give the newbie's a chance to compete together and hopefully wake-up a few of the .be old timers.

Gotta be a good first prize tho - not necessarily expensive, just good.

Any thoughts or ideas??

My ideas for a compo...

1. The best 60-second dnb track.
2. The best track under 5 mins using a given drum loop and bassline (provide people with some wav files).
3. The best track under 3 mins using only beats - no synths and basses. Dnb breaks madness.
4. Pair-up into collabs - best tune wins. Or maybe teams of 3 or even 4.

my opinion is that the 3 minute tune would be best.
would be short enough to listen through a bunch of em...
yet long enough to get some real structure and theme going on!
something with a proper intro, drop and outro.

Yeah the drums idea i like alot..

Anyway i'm up for entering whatever the rules.. gives me a reason to blow the dust off my midi keyboard and start producing for fun again..

comp sounds cool. dunno bout the drum idea? too many things peeps could do to cheat lol. think a few heads on here wouldnt even enter if it was a drum comp.

how do you mean cheat?

you obviously have no idea how much can be one with just drums and fx on them

by cheat i mean, people could record a drum solo or summat and submit that. theres plenty of ways mate. also been a drum and BASS site i thought maybe there should be a drum and BASS comp. or are we changing a bit? maybe DRUM.BE? i just think that a solo drum comp would be quite boring for 50% of the heads and cool for 50% of the more " heavy " heads

kidding, but seriously there can be different categories. more compos! each month one compo or something. also, why do you feel the need to enter every compo there is? if you dont like it, dont enter, simple as that. thats not aimed at you in particular mate . nothing in this world can please everyone

fair point too! if theres a comp on this site. a pretty close knit 1 i may add. wouldnt it be better with most of the peeps entering? to be honest it is only gonna be about 50% who the comp would be suitable for.

this issue is currently been discussed by the moderators too
but at the end of the day... its down to king chron.

i think maybe a poll about the style of compo wanted would
show what the people want, AND would be good advertising too

I'm like the idea of the drums only compo a lot, it's original and some very creative things could come out of it.

Doing compos on a more regular basis would be nice, but don't underestimate the amount of work involved, once a month would be too much perhaps.
